The incredible equines at 51:10 Ranch are our partners in ministry. Similar to people, horses, mules, and donkeys can be faced with physical, mental, and emotional challenges. As we share their stories with our participants, people often identify with their histories. Whether they have been adopted, rescued, donated, or purchased, each animal has a special place in the herd.
Annie is a 16-year-old Quarter Horse/Arabian cross (Quarab). She could be Maggie’s twin as both mares are bay Quarabs with hind socks and a stripe down their faces. In addition, both are dominant mares. Annie loves kids and we are excited to have her as the newest addition to the ranch.
Beck is a Missouri Fox Trotter who is approximately 19 years old and 15.1 hands. He is a chestnut gelding with a small star and hind left sock. Beck was rescued years ago by a local family and was donated to the ranch. His fox trotter gait is incredibly smooth!
Bella is approximately 22 years old, 14.3 hands, and came to us after retiring from a trail riding program at a local ranch. She is a grade black Quarter Horse mare who is one of the quietest horses at the ranch.
Cash is an 18-year-old palomino Quarter Horse gelding who was donated to the ranch with his buddy Smiley. He is a palomino/dun with primitive markings, including a dorsal stripe down his back and zebra stripings on his legs. Cash was also used for mounted shooting, and ranch work, and even spent some time in Montana and Kansas before living at 51:10.
Jed is a registered Haflinger gelding who is 14 years old. Before he lived in Colorado Jed lived in Idaho! Jed is short for Jedediah. His breed originated in Austria as mountain horses, which makes him perfect for our Rocky Mountain ranch.
Justin is a black Morgan cross gelding in his late 20s. He has spent nearly his entire life in the Arkansas River Valley, working with people of all ages and ability levels. Justin is extremely friendly and loves to greet people at the gate to the corrals.
King is the biggest horse in our herd! He is a 14 year old registered paint gelding who was a western pleasure performance horse until he broke his hind left leg. He survived the surgery to fix his leg and then was donated to 51:10. He is one of the original three horses that launched our herd. He is a chestnut gelding with a large blaze and four white stockings, standing 16.1 hands tall.
Maggie, short for Mary Magdelene, is one of our foundational horses at 51:10. She was a hunter-jumper horse in Georgia, but then her pasture mate was sold and she fell into a depression and stopped eating. When she found a new home in the 51:10 herd, life changed and she was restored to health. Maggie, is a bay 23 year old Quarter Horse/Arabian mare with a stripe and two hind socks.
Where you see one, you see the other! Paco (white and gray) and Taco (solid gray) are our burros that help teach people how to approach, catch, lead, and tie up an equine. They love to play with one another in the mornings. Paco and Taco are miniature donkeys.
Red is a 16 year old chesnut Quarter Horse/Friesian gelding with a stripe and two hind socks. He belongs to our Herd Manager who brought him to Colorado from the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Rebecca trained him and rode him while guiding trail rides professionally in the Rockies. He’s a go-to choice for sessions, and even knows how to lay down on cue!
Sage is an Appaloosa gelding in his mid teens who belongs to Addison Verrier. He has two blue eyes and is Addison’s partner in local gymkhanas and 4H shows. Although he is a part of the herd, he is not used in the 51:10 program.
Smiley is a 23-year-old Quarter Horse who was donated to the ranch with his buddy Cash. Smiley has had many careers including being a mounted shooting horse, ranch horse and 4H horse. Now he’s a new favorite at 51:10. He is a small sorrel with a small star/stripe on his face and two hind socks.
Sophie is a Molly (female) mule in her late teens that belongs to our Herd Manager, Rebecca Sheriff. Sophie was previously used as a riding and packing mule for hunters in the Rockies. Sophie loves people, ear scratches, and hanging out with Red.
Sugar is one of the three original horses that moved to Colorado from Georgia when the Verriers launched 51:10 Ranch. She is a 24 year old registered paint mare whose first career was as a hunter jumper mare. She is a liver chestnut with a blaze and hind left sock. She is often mistaken for Tex!
Suzie Q is a black miniature horse who pulls our cart. She came from a neighboring camp and joined the herd at 51:10, where she quickly became adopted as Maggie’s best friend. Suzie has two blue eyes and loves to give pony cart rides.
Where you see one, you see the other! Paco (white and gray) and Taco (solid gray) are our burros that help teach people how to approach, catch, lead, and tie up an equine. They love to play with one another in the mornings. Paco and Taco are miniature donkeys.
